Pregnolia is a spin-off of the ETH Zurich and has developed a device to improve pregnancy care. It measures objectively and quantitatively the stiffness of the cervix. The condition of the cervix is considered to be an important indicator for determining the preterm birth risk: the softer the cervix, the higher the risk of premature birth. Until now, it has been up to gynecologists and midwives to test the softness by palpation. However, this examination method is subjective and requires a lot of experience especially in the early weeks of pregnancy.
Pregnolia - the product
The Pregnolia device consists of a sterile disposable probe and a small console with a display. The device builds a vacuum in the probe. The softer the tissue, the weaker the vacuum needs to be to deform the tissue to a predefined distance.
Pregnolia - the team
The team combines expertise from technology, regulatory affairs and clinical practice. Managing Director is Dr. Sabrina Badir (2nd from the right), email@example.com
Pregnolia - Status and next steps
Currently the team is about to complete the CE certification documentation. The market launch in Switzerland is scheduled for 2019. Pregnolia is now looking for companies suitable to support the industrial production of the console and the disposable probe as well as distribution partners in gynecological practices.
